It can be really easy, there's plenty of old bits of cloths and paper that can't be used to much else.

We just have to make it scary to keep all the bad spirits away.

Yeah! There's actually a story with that. Jack o' Lanterns were used to ward off evil spirits. That's why you put them at the doors and try to make the face as eerie as possible!
